Creating a Summer Home That Feels Effortless is The Art of Summer Living
I truly feel that there is something rather special about Summer that changes the way we experience our homes.
The days become longer, the light is brighter, the pace of life slows a little and we naturally lean towards light filled spaces, to open doors and to the joy of evenings spent outdoors.
The garden becomes another room to enjoy, whether it is sharing lunch on the terrace, reading beneath the shade of a tree or simply enjoying the last of the day's sunshine with family and friends.
Summer has a wonderful way of revealing how we really live. Which space draws people together, where does everyone naturally gather.
Does the kitchen flow effortlessly onto the terrace, does the living room feel connected to the garden. These are often the moments that highlight where thoughtful design can make everyday living even more enjoyable.
The very best interiors are never just about how they look, they support the way we live, entertain, relax and spend time together. How comfortably we move through each space, the relationship with the flow and function and importantly how they make us feel.
Inside to Outside Living
One of the greatest pleasures of summer is how easily our homes can extend beyond their walls.
Beautiful Crittall doors or elegant French doors thrown open and inviting the fresh air and nature’s song inside, terraces and gardens become an extension of our living spaces. The boundaries between indoors and outdoors begin to soften and blend, allowing us to move seamlessly from one to the other.
As an interior designer, I love creating that connection. So often we hear the phrase ‘bringing the outside in’ and I believe in ‘taking the inside out’.
The same warmth, comfort and personality that make a living room inviting can continue onto a terrace or into a favourite corner of the garden.
Comfortable seating, layered textures, natural materials and carefully chosen planting all help create outdoor spaces that feel every bit as welcoming as the rooms inside.
When the architecture, interiors and landscape work together, the whole home feels larger, lighter and more harmonious.
It becomes a place that adapts beautifully with the seasons and encourages us to make the most of every sunny day. At the moment we are truly blessed with this sunshine.

Inspired by Nature
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love spending time in my garden, usually busy gardening but also with friends having a little glass of bubbly!
It is often where I begin the day noticing what has flowered overnight or simply enjoying a few quiet moments before everything becomes busy. Those moments may seem small, but they are often where inspiration begins.
Nature has an extraordinary way of bringing colours, textures and materials together without ever feeling contrived. Soft sage greens sit comfortably alongside warm stone, weathered woods become richer with age and delicate planting creates movement, texture and softness that changes throughout the day.
These natural combinations influence my design ideas far more than passing trends ever could.
Whether I am choosing a paint palette inspired by the landscape, layering beautiful linens with natural oak or introducing stunning ceramics and woven textures, I am always looking to create interiors that feel connected beyond their walls.
Designed for Living
Beautiful interiors should never exist simply to be admired.
The homes I admire most are those that reflect the personalities and lifestyles of the people who live there. My ethos is to design to achieve this. It is those unique treasures discovered, pieces collected whilst travelling or inherited furniture all deserving of their place within a carefully considered scheme.
I take my inspiration from so many different places and fill the well of ideas from so many things, each of us do this without realising.
I rarely encourage clients to begin with a blank canvas instead, I like to discover the pieces that already hold meaning and build around them. These are often the elements that give a home its warmth, individuality and sense of belonging.
Good design is not about replacing everything. It is about understanding what matters, improving how a space functions and creating an environment that feels beautifully balanced for everyday life.
The Beauty of Simplicity
Summer reminds us that we often need less rather than more.
Natural light becomes the focal point. Freshly cut flowers gathered from the garden bring effortless beauty to a room and windows remain open and simple materials such as linen, oak, rattan and stone create a relaxed atmosphere that feels both elegant and comfortable.
For me, luxury has never been about excess but about quality, craftsmanship and creating spaces that allow us to take a moment and enjoy our surroundings.
Sometimes the most transformative design decisions are not what we add but what we choose to take away.
Editing a room carefully allows every beautiful material, piece of furniture or decorative piece to sit proudly, creating interiors that feel unique, calm, welcoming and easy to live in.
Creating a Home that Grows with You
No two projects are ever the same because no two clients live in quite the same way.
My role is always to listen first and to understand how a family spends time together, how they entertain, where they seek quiet moments and what they want their home to emulate.
The most successful interiors are those that evolve naturally over time, collecting stories, memories and treasured possessions along the way. They feel authentic because they have been designed around real life rather than trends.
As I continue to enjoy everything that summer brings, I am reminded that the most memorable homes are those that embrace the changing seasons. They invite us to open the doors, bring ourselves outside and welcome nature in to enjoy the simple pleasures of summer living.
