The Significance of Collaboration in Interior Design
Reflecting today, a glorious sunny day at my studio Creighton Designs in Tunbridge Wells, Kent and I have always believed that interior design begins with connection.
Connection between people, supporting each other
Connection between textures , materials and the space
Connection between colour, light and the architecture
It is this sense of connection and collaboration that allows a space to feel layered, cohesive and deeply personal. Whether we are connecting with each other, collaborating with each other or with textures, fabrics, furnishing and interiors I find it so exciting to bounce ideas around, all at different degrees of course!
A lovely friend introduced me to a wonderfully talented upholsterer Harry and voila some rather drab stools have been beautifully recreated with this stunning Colefax and Fowler pinky terracotta which now connect to these interiors! So grateful for this connection!
The warmth of the pinky terracotta brings the outside in and amongst each other, plus it adds a little sunshine, which is what we are finally experiencing today!
That moment perfectly captures why I value collaboration, and why it is so significant in the interior design world. This particular project began simply with an introduction to a skilled upholsterer. A conversation followed and the ideas then flowed, fabrics explored and gradually something rather ordinary was reimagined.
The stools themselves were modest pieces but by reupholstering them in a beautiful Colefax and Fowler pinky terracotta textured fabric, they were transformed. The warmth of the terracotta tone gently echoed the landscape beyond the windows, creating flow between interior and exterior. The colour added softness, warmth and a subtle optimism, almost like a little burst of sunshine within the room.
This is what thoughtful interior design collaboration can achieve. It is not always about major renovations or dramatic changes. Often, it is about carefully considered updates, perhaps a new fabric, a refined colour palette, engulfing a room with colour, or a shift in texture, all of which bring harmony and renewed energy to a space.
Within Interior Design, collaborations with artisans, creatives, upholsterers, decorators and fabric houses ensures that each element is executed beautifully and cohesively. It brings depth to a scheme and allows a home to feel curated and layered rather than styled. For my clients across Tunbridge Wells and Kent, this means interiors feel calm, connected and are enduring spaces, always functionally supporting everyday life while elevating it.
Sometimes, a few thoughtful changes truly can make all the difference.
When a space, your home, feels just right, you stop, you sigh when you enter it, it gives you something back, a quiet confidence, a lift in mood, a sense of belonging all truly enveloping.
That is the power and value of collaboration in interior design
If you are ready to explore how thoughtful design and considered collaboration can elevate your interiors, I would be delighted to hear from you and if you would be interested in learning more about Harry’s expertise do reach out, I am happy to put you in contact.
